Making pasta

Oooh I'm so excited about my new kitchen gadget. My new pasta machine. Aaron's mum bought it for me for Christmas, but she didn't want to risk posting it overseas, so she brought it with her in her suitcase when she visited recently.
We eat quite a bit of pasta, so I really loved the idea of being able to make my own, with good quality ingredients. And fresh pasta is just so much more delicious than the dried pasta from the store.
The ingredients are so simple - flour, egg, salt, olive oil, and a little water. And it's kind of calming and relaxing to make, rolling and rolling and rolling and cutting, lots of flour everywhere, and the nice doughy smell, and little hands very keen to help. Isla was especially keen to help, and became quite possesive of that handle. I left her with a bit of dough when we'd finished, and she stood up there and rolled and rolled and re-rolled that little piece of dough about a million times.

oh look at those curls! I'm loving my pasta maker at the moment too. I make mine with just flour and eggs though! I think having another set of hands would really help with all the winding and shifting of the dough!

Can you tell me where you get your flour from? I noticed a sack in the background of the photos. Cheers :)

Hi Jessica
I get my flour from Chantal organics - I have set up an account to buy wholesale from them. I've been meaning to do a post on it actually, incase others were interested in doing it. It's a lot cheaper than buying from a store.

We had a machine like that growing up. I loved it because it always turned a weekend dinner into a big family project. I'm think about getting the pasta attachment for my mixer so I can start making nice pasta from scratch for us.

Yum delicious homemade pasta. I got mine out of the cupboard the other day and the handle is missing! In a box somewhere still... I had to roll the dough with one of Sophie's tiny rolling pins as mine seems to be AWOL at the moment. Must be in the same box as the pasta crank handle...

Great looking pasta - so well cut and organised.Makng pasta satisfies on so many levels.
Masterchef Australia has just started again here and celebrity chef Neil Perry made a richer pasta - going to try this.
270gm semolina flour
2 whole eggs
2 yolks
1/2 tbs olive oil
10 gm salt
Looks like this one dries really well - will see. GG

Yes! I made pasta with my oldest, several times, but haven't done it with my younger two. It's been on my mind a lot, of late. Thank you for inspiring me to give it another go! (And oh, how I love that speedy cranking shot :)

Your kiddo's look like they are having a ball, yeah to you new floor!
I think 100grams might just be enough for a vest for Isla, I can get three beanies out of one hank, because it is light it goes further than other wool. once you have done Isla's you'll know if you have enough for Liams vest.
If not, I'm happy to send more wool, it can be an early christmas pressie:)
