The realities

There are people, lovely friends of mine, who read my blog, and sometimes giggle. Because they come here, and there are sweet pictures of sweet angelic children, who help with baking and play together, and smile. And then I call them in the afternoon, and they hear screaming in the background, and I'm complaining, just a little bit, about how they are driving me BANANAS.
So do please know, because I feel like I need to say, just in case you don't, but of course I'm sure you do, but just as a reminder, that I do have normal children, and we do have a normal children filled house, where we all go, just a little bit BANANAS at times, and mum does get just a little bit yell-ey. And it's just that here, on this blog, I'd rather not dwell on the yell-ey bits, because really, I know you don't want to know about the yell-ey bits, but rather the baking and the crafting, and the lovely things. And when I come here, I take a deep breath and it's refreshing, and while my children are going wild I can think about and notice some of the nice things in our days and we can all smile :) That's what this space is all about.
Ha, as I end this sentence, my children have just come inside, not complaining or crying which has seemed the norm for this afternoon, but instead to show me the stale crackers that they are munching on which we earlier threw out to the birds. Hmmm.

Oh, and thankyou for all the remedy ideas in the last post, some great stuff, and I'm happy to say they are almost back to full health.

I love that you admitted to being "yell-ey". Glad to know that I'm not the only one! Also glad to know that my kid isn't the only one who eats stale things off the lawn... hmmmmm. :o)

Seem to remember you eating the odd stale thing from who-knows-where... and then I'm wondering also, is it a genetic thing? Remember Great Granny's scones!!!

So glad to hear you and your children are normal!!! But isn't it so much nicer not to dwell on the "yell-ey" bits and find the bright spots of the day. x

Great post! I couldn't agree more - my family even read my recent christmas posts and said "wow, you made it seem more glamourous than it was!" But it's so much nicer if you leave out the messy bits - it reminds you to appreciate those bits most, and serves (hopefully) to inspire a few perhaps...

erm, by 'those bits' I actually meant the nice bits! :-)

So true and honest! That's life with children, isn't it;)

My daughter always insist on eating the stale bread we bring for the ducks in the park, lol!

I love their knitted hats! Did you design the pattern or could you share the pattern name? I've been looking for a nice ear flap hat pattern for my little guy.

hehe, so nice to hear you all relating :)
Lana - no the hat pattern isn't mine. I blogged about them here

...and their uncle used to find worms in puddles and eat them !!! it is in the genes. Anyway Hanna they do grow out of it, look at Kane now !!! Talk about eating your pumpkin pie was excellent - Doug the Canadian said it was the best pumpkin pie ever.

I still think your kids are the cutest things; even if they do eat stale crackers off the ground. :) I really like that photo that looks like your daughter is skipping onto the shore. It has a really happy feel to it.

Love it. I was just reading through a bunch of blogs I've mysteriously subscribed to and thought, hmmm...which one is this? Perfect post. Not unsubscribing. Whew.
And I love the portrait of your reality. I too choose to share more of the positives of my family life at home on my blog...But three kids under five finds us a bit crazed most of the day. It's hard to find that balance between sharing the real and sharing the wonderful. Their two great subjects that I vacillate between constantly. Thanks for such an honest post.

thanks hannah, i love trying to remember the sweet bits too, and love reading other's sweet times...but it is always re-assuring to be reminded that there are banana and yell-ey times too, so thanks for that.
