We have recently returned from a trip away to the South Island. I have returned reminded of how beautiful this country is that we live in! We visited my Dad who has been living on his boat in the Queen Charlotte Sounds, he has been there on and off for quite a few months now and we kept meaning to get down there and visit. The beauty of home schooling meant that we could take a week off and just do it!
I took lots and lots of photos, so I will share a few, in stages - I took a lot :) too many to share in one post!
Flying down on the plane, I think they talked non-stop the whole way, at least it made the trip go quickly.
We spent the first two days at my Dad's cousin and family's place near Blenheim, they live on a huge farm up in the hills at the end of a very long gravel road, so so beautiful! We arrived in the dark and woke up to this beautiful frosty morning view.
This amazing huge old apple tree was just laden with apples, we bought a big bag home with us, absolutely delicious apples.
Liam and his new best friend spent a lot of time exploring that river in the background, it wrapped right around the house and apparently had lots of eels in it just waiting to be caught.
Olly and Liam were instant best friends from the moment they met. They had amazing adventures together, exploring and 'hunting' :) and tramping up hills, we hardly saw them.
And Victoria took Isla under her wing and became her big sister/second mother, so lovely :)
All four kids spent all day, every day, outside exploring, usually followed by two little black goats that thought they were dogs.
I was secretly relieved that Olly's motorbike was temporarily out of action.
Look at the size of these giant mushrooms we found! We had a big feed of mushrooms for breakfast the next morning.
We learnt about the beech tree honeydew...
Look at those sweet little droplets, the kids collected them up on their fingers.
Off hunting for wild goats, pigs, deer, rabbits, anything really.
We had the most AMAZING weather, for the whole week and a half that we were away.

Oh what a lovely holiday. Have you thought to make your photos of it into a book?
